Class & Massage Descriptions

All of our classes will guide you towards complete wellness, flexibility, strength, and balance. Our offerings range from classes held at slower pace with longer-held poses that explore healthy alignment to more vigorous, athletic flowing styles. Below is a full description of our offerings. The goal is not necessarily to think of progress in your practice by “moving up” to the next level. Instead, we encourage you to find options that inspire, challenge and feel good to you.

If you are dealing with any health conditions or injuries, please notify the instructor before class.

This open class incorporates energizing postures with an emphasis on alignment. Postures are linked in a flow that elevate the heart rate, while also improving strength and coordination. Classes assume a yogi/ni begins with a certain degree of strength and endurance, but all levels are supported

Ashtanga 1/2 will teach the basics of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition’s breathing & asana sequencing.  The pace will be slowed down and accessible for LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 students.  This is not a traditional Primary Series Class, but will incorporate the beginning mantra and the building blocks necessary to create a healthy, sustainable ashtanga practice.

The Ashtanga method of yoga as created by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is a dynamic, flow yoga practice where the students are taught a set series of poses.  The poses combine to make up The Primary Series, Intermediate Series, & subsequent Advanced Series A, B, C etc…..In the traditional method, students do not advance in series until they have mastered each pose given to them.  This flow class will be inspired by the traditional practice, and will include poses drawn from a variety of the Ashtanga Series. Ashtanga also relies heavily on the breath, the drishti (eye gaze) and the bandhas (internal “locks”).  Each of these tenants will be emphasized and taught. This practice will leave you feeling stronger, calmer and clearer.

Mindfulness/awareness meditation is the ancient practice of self-discovery rooted in the simple but revolutionary premise that every human being has the ability to cultivate the mind’s inherent stability, clarity and strength in order to be more awake and to develop the compassion and insight necessary to care for oneself and the world genuinely. Meditation has been scientifically proven to correct much of the damage caused by stress, helping the body to repair itself, restoring the body to a calm state, and preventing new damage due to the physical effects of stress.

This 75-minute class generates heat through a vinyasa — or flowing sequence — at a moderate pace, set to a great playlist. Beginning with a brief warm up, the class moves through Surya Namaskar A and B (sun salutations), standing poses, seated forward bends, backbends, and inversions. With a clear focus on the breath as the compass for the movement, open flow classes also emphasize a foundation of correct alignment in each pose. This breath-to-breath, asana-to-asana movement enables practitioners to build strength while cultivating ease and grace, both on the mat and off. Expect some thoughtful words and a brief meditation, as well as some chanting to open the heart. This class is appropriate for physically active beginners as well as seasoned yogis.

Your connection to your core body and the ways in which it complements your connection to your life is at the center of YogaCore. An alignment-based Hatha Yoga conditioning class that works the core via your breathing. The fabric of the class is woven with traditional asana and well as functional movement excercises to be applied to your broader Yoga practice, cross training, and everyday life.
This is a six-week, on-going series. Perfect for beginners looking to understand the building blocks of a flowing vinyasa yoga class, as well as for experienced practitioners looking to deepen their understanding of proper alignment and breath pacing in their practice. The series will walk students carefully through the building blocks of a full vinyasa class in four installments.

Class 1 begins with a presentation of ujayii pranayama, or the “victorious breath” used in vinyasa yoga, followed by warm up poses. The first class steps through the elements of a Sun Salutation sequence, focusing on each pose in the sequence individually, eventually linking them into a flowing movement. Class 2 will briefly review the first class’s elements and then focus on several standing poses such as the Warrior poses, side angles, and some standing balance poses. Class 3 will include a review of the first two classes, and then explore forward bends and twists. Class 4 will link all the elements of the first three classes, and move onto an exploration of back bending poses as well as one or two beginner level inversions. Classes 5 &6 will be an opportunity to put it all together in a safe, supportive environment leaving time for questions on prop usage and individual modifications.  Students will be ready to move into our level 1/2 or mixed level classes if they choose. Or can repeat the fundamentals as often as they like.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

The classical Chinese explanation is that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues. An obstruction in the movement of these energy rivers is like a dam that backs up in others.

The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points; the acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions at the dams, and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians. Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the body’s internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy through the meridians.

The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system.

The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension and stress and emotional conditions.
